Performance of a flashing driven natural circulation loop with dual risers over a range of operating conditions
The influence of asymmetric operating conditions on the steady state performance of a flashing driven natural circulation loop (NCL) with dual risers has been investigated using a one-dimensional model of the loop with homogeneous equilibrium model (HEM) for the two-phase zone. The investigation shows that, flashing has significant effects on the performance and the stability of the NCL with dual risers. The performance of the loop with equal and unequal heating has also been compared based on the simulation. It is observed that, at all operating conditions (equal and unequal heating, different inlet restrictions), flashing, in general, reduces the circulation rate. For unequal heating, the mass flow rate through one riser influences that through the other in a manner which is unique and dependent on the prevailing operating parameters. Though, the occurrence of flashing has a stabilizing effect as has also been observed for loops with a single riser, unequal heating of the risers increases the tendency for Ledinegg instability.
