Thermodynamic and spectroscopic study of molecular interactions between ethanol and isomeric cresols
The densities (rho) of binary liquid mixtures of ethanol with o-cresol, m-cresol and p-cresol have been analysis at temperatures T = (303.15, 308.15, 313.15 and 318.15) K and speeds of sound (u) of the same liquid mixtures were measured at T= (303.15 and 313.15) K. The experimental data were used to compute several thermodynamic properties, namely, excess volume (V-E), excess isentropic compressibilities (K-S(E)) and the volumetric properties like excess partial molar volume ((V) over bar (E)(m,2)), partial molar volume ((V) over bar (m,1 )(V) over bar (m,2)) excess partial molar volume ((V) over bar (0E)(m,2), (V) over bar (0E)(m,2)) at infinite dilutions. Moreover, the measured speed of sound was estimated in terms of Jacobson's free length theory (FLT) and Schaff 's collision factor theory (CFT) to check the capability of theoretical models. The excess functions (V-E, K-S(E)) were fitted and correlated with Redlich-Kister & Hwang equations. The results were discussed in terms of intermolecular H-bonding interactions between ethanol with isomeric cresols and confirmed by FT-IR Spectral studies. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd.
