Solution assisted roll-coating of transparent conducting oxide thin films for organic photovoltaic applications
Transparent conduction oxide (TCO) thin films are one of the key material in optoelectronic applications. These materials are usually produced by vacuum-based methods such as magnetron sputtering, both for laboratory work and for commercial purposes. Alternative methods for producing large-scale TCO films are needed. In this work, a non-vacuum coating technique for preparation of TCO thin films on large area glass substrates was presented. Tin doped indium oxide (ITO) thin films were successively coated on glass substrates by non-vacuum based roll coating method. A low electrical resistivity of similar to 1.3 x 10(-3) Omega cm and high optical transmittance of 84% in the visible region were obtained for ITO thin film samples. Furthermore, an ITO/PEDOT PSS/P3HT:PCBM/LiF/Al structured organic photovoltaic cell was also prepared on non-vacuum roll coated ITO thin films. The device with the roll coated ITO thin film exhibits a power conversion efficiency of 1.83%, average short-circuit current density (J(sc)) of 7.4 mA/cm(2), open-circuit voltage (V-oc) of 0.590 V, and fill factor (FF) of 0.42.
