Synthesis of Ionic Conductive Gels by Means of Menschutkin Reaction of Poly(epichlorohydrin) and Bisimidazole Compounds
Ionic conductive gels have been synthesized by means of Menschutkin reaction of poly(epichlorohydrin) (PECH) and 1, n-alkanediyl-bis- imidazolium (BIn, n= 4, 6, 8) in acetonitrile or 1,4-dioxane. The obtained gels showed soft and flexible features. The gels showed ionic conductivity derived from Cl- anions in PECH. The ionic conductivity of the gel in acetonitrile showed higher conductivity than that in 1,4-dioxane. The ionic conductivity increased with increasing of the molecular length of BIn. Temperature dependence of the gels was investigated to determine Vogel-Tammann-Fulcher (VTF) equation parameters. The results indicated that increasing of the crosslinking density accompanied by decrease of the molecular length of BIn should prevent the Cl- anions from diffusing in the gels due to the increase of activation energy of the ion transport.
