Impact of Cellulose and Surfactants on Mass Transfer of Bubble Columns
The effects of cellulose, surfactants, and their combination on the hydrodynamic behavior and the liquid-side mass transfer coefficient of a bubble column were evaluated. For that purpose, different aqueous solutions containing surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate) and cellulose (microcrystalline cellulose, MCC) were investigated. The interfacial areas were calculated from the bubble diameters, the bubble frequencies, and the terminal bubble rising velocities. The liquid-side mass transfer coefficients were determined from the volumetric mass transfer coefficients measured by the dynamic method. In the concentration range under test, the experimental results proved that the addition of MCC to the studied liquid phases did not affect the mass transfer coefficient.
