Proof of Concept of Sucrose Measurement Method that Combines Photocatalysis with Enzymatic Reaction
We developed a novel paper-substrate-type sucrose measurement method that combines an enzymatic reaction with photocatalytic reaction by using a titanium oxide instead of the invertase enzyme used in conventional sucrose detection methods. We prepared a reaction area by printing titanium oxide ink on a paper substrate. Glucose produced in the reaction area was detected by a mediator-type enzyme biosensor placed downstream, which used glucose oxidase and tetrathiafulvalene. The generation efficiency of glucose in the reaction area, produced with 10mM of sucrose, was 6.8%. Furthermore, when a calibration curve was drawn by varying sucrose concentration, we confirmed linearity over sucrose concentrations ranging from 1 to 10 mM.
