A MAS NMR method for measuring C-13-O-17 distances
Results of C-13,O-17-rotational-echo, double-resonance NMR (REDOR) and C-13,O-17-rotational-echo, adiabatic-passage, double-resonance NMR (REAPDOR) experiments on asparagine monohydrate are reported. The measurement of carbon-oxygen distances in a solid sample with magic-angle spinning NMR and O-17-enriched water is illustrated. These results show that determining the relative location of bound water in solids is possible and suggest that measuring distances between spin-1/2 nuclei and other chemical types of oxygen is feasible.
