Tetrahedral Tetra-cationic Ionic Liquids
Tetra-cationic compounds with tetrahedral geometry were synthesized. Four cationic units were introduced on a quaternary carbon through -CH2- spacer. Despite of steric crowding around the core, high reactivity of Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cyclo-addition reaction followed by quaternization of the triazole unit enabled this molecular design. Tetra-cations with ethylene glycol tails were ionic liquids with 10(-6)S cm(-1) order ionic conductivity at 25 degrees C.
