An effect of concentration polarization and natural convection on the transport properties of a polymeric membrane
Kedem-Katchalsky-Peusner (K-K-P) equations in a matrix form were used to det. the impact of the title parameters on systems including aq.-alc. glucose solns. with constant EtOH content (201 mol/m(3)) and variable glucose content (1-101 mol/m(3)) placed above the tested membrane and the glucose solns. with a constant content of both components (1 mol/m(3)) under it (configuration A). The inverse location of both types of solns. in relation to the membrane was also used (configuration B). Concn. polarization strongly depended on the glucose concn. In the soln. and the configuration of the system. It decreased with increasing glucose concn. in soln. for configuration A, and increased for configuration B. In addn., the natural convection for the analyzed configurations was estd. as a function of the determinants of K-K-P equations. An increase in glucose concn. in solns. in the range of 1-10 mol/m(3) resulted in a strong decrease of convection value.
