The Cerium-Zirconium Binary Oxide as an Efficient Catalyst for Oxidation of alpha-Methylstyrene Oxide into Atrolactic Acid
The atrolactic acid is an important intermediate for synthesis of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pharmaceuticals, and meanwhile the traditional synthesis of atrolactic acid demands harsh conditions, lengthy steps, or big power consumption. In order to overcome these drawbacks, a series of Ce-Zr binary oxides are first developed as catalysts for oxidation of alpha-methylstyrene oxide into atrolactic acid. Catalytic results reveal these catalysts have high activity and recycling potential. This work shows a new method for preparation of atrolactic acid, which could be carried out under benign conditions, providing satisfactory outputs.
