Thermo-physical Properties and Combustion Wave Aspects of RDX Contain Low Aluminium Composite Propellant
Thermo-physical properties play an important role in combustion and heat transfer of propulsion system. The thermo-physical properties (thermal diffusivity, specific heat and thermal conductivity) aspects were studied on incorporation of RDX by partial replacement of AP in low aluminized propellant. These properties were experimentally determined by Flash technique at ambient temperature up to 100 degrees C. The finding reveals that on increasing the ratio of RDX to AP, there is an increase in specific heat and thermal conductivity while thermal diffusivity decreases, accordingly. The effect of RDX on combustion mechanism is evident in combustion wave, which was clearly visible in high-speed images of propellant burning surface at ambient conditions.
