Effect of Melaleuca alternifolia bioproduct on acute monocytic leukemia cells line
The essential oil obtained from Melaleuca alternifolia (TTO) is recognized due to its antimicrobial properties. The TTO was purchased from the Romanian market, to be used in experiments regarding their effect against monocytic leukemia cells. Bioproduct analysis indicates a content of 34.8% terpineol, 13.5% p-cymene, 10.72% gamma-Terpinene, 7.9% Levo-carvone, 6.7% terpinene-4-ol, and 5.7% alpha-Pinene, as the main compounds. Chemiluminescence studies indicate the prooxidant properties for TTO. If the THP-1 cells line is treated with TTO at concentrations of (0.01-0.1) microg/mL, after 24 h of exposure, in the system more than 30% of THP1 cells are in the stage of apoptosis.
