Spectroscopic and thermogravimetric studies of poly(vinyl chloride) plastisols containing cadmium pigments
Eight corn. Cd pigments were purified by extn. with boiling AcOBu for 2.5 h and by leaching with boiling NaOH and H2SO4 solns. and then used for pigmenting (14.3% by mass) di-2-ethylhexylphthalate-plastified poly(vinyl chloride) gelated at 140 degrees C for 1 h. The plastisol films (thickness 1.0 mm) were irradiated with UV at 30 degrees C for 100 h. The irradiation resulted in partial degrdn. of the polymer structure and formation of hydroxyl groups.
