Scanning-Tunneling-Microscopy Studies of Thin-Film AgBr on Au(111)
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has been used to determine the surface structure of thin evaporated AgBr films on Au(111). Two structurally different regions are observed. One shows a complex moire structure due to the long-range commensurability of the Au and AgBr lattices. This structure implies that the thin AgBr films are (111) oriented without any significant reconstruction. The second region appears to have the (square-root 3 X square-root 3)R30-degrees structure that has been previously observed in AgBr grown on Ag(111) single crystals.
