Synthesis and light-emitting properties of a carbazole-containing hyperbranched conjugated poly(phenylene vinylene)
A new carbazole-containing hyperbranched conjugated poly(phenylene vinylene) (Hyper-PCPPV) was synthesized through the Wittig polycondensation polymerization. Hyper-PCPPV has good solubility in common organic solvents and showed excellent thermal stability up to 425 degrees C with less than 5% weight loss. The photophysical properties of Hyper-PCPPV were investigated and compared with a carbazole-containing linear conjugated poly(para-phenylene vinylene) (Linear-PCPPV). An absorption maximum of Hyper-PCPPV film was determined at 353 nm which was far blue shifted than that of Linear-PCPPV (403 nm). Hyper-PCPPV showed blue photoluminescence (PL) peak at 448 nm. In addition, Hyper-PCPPV exhibited almost no excimer or aggregate emission peaks even when the polymer film was annealed at 80 degrees C for 30 min in air condition.
