Intermixing in Fe/Cr(001) Multilayers - Density-Functional Calculations
Fe/Cr (001) multilayers containing perfect as well as intermixed interfaces were investigated using density functional calculations and an ordered supercell approach. The results show that the qualitative differences between theoretical expectations for perfect interfaces and experimental data for real Fe/Cr multilayers can be understood in terms of intermixing. Both phase shifts and reductions in magnitude of the coupling are found.
