Influences of substrate structure on properties of emulsion electrolysis of alcohols
Primary alcohols with different alkyl chain length were emulsified with an anionic surfactant SDS and electrolyzed indirectly by using a redox couple I+/I- as a mediator to be converted into esters. For all the alcohols, ester yield shows maximum against surfactant concentration. The yield increases more significantly for hydrophobic alcohols having a longer alkyl chain.
