The efficiency and permanence of natural rubber bound paraphenylene diamine was compared with conventional amine type antioxidant in filled natural rubber vulcanizates. The rubber bound antioxidant was found to be less volatile and less extractable. The vulcanizate showed improved ageing resistance, but poor ozone resistance. The combined effect of bound and conventional antioxidant was also studied.
