Reducing the contamination tendencies and demolding forces in elastomer molds by means of surface treatment
This article deals with the problems of demoldability and contamination of injection and compression molds for elastomer processing. The theoretical background of adhesion of elastomers and contamination of mold cavities will be explained, The practical part of the article examines common hard solid layers in the processing of selected elastomers, The titanium nitride (TIN), titanium aluminium nitride (TiAlN), chromium nitride (CrN) and chromium carbide (CrC) were used as hard solid layers, The adhesion tendency of elastomers on mold cavity walls can be reduced to a large extend.
