In this work various polymers were investigated under focused CO2-laser radiation. The aim was a systematic development of materials suitable for laser engraving. NR, NBR, EPDM and SBR vulcanizates containing inorganic fillers (TiO2, CaCO3 or silica) were engraved and both the engraving speed and the quality of the engravings obtained were examined. This investigation was carried out with regard to the production of flexographic printing plates, e.g., rubber stamps.
