EPDM known to be a crackless rubber, has been used with blends of diene rubber to protect from ozone cracking and oxidation. However, such blend systems have difficulties in mixing, co-vulcanization, and processing. Liquid polymers, such as polyisoprene or polybutadiene have been used to improve processing by lowering the Mooney viscosity. They do not, however, provide oxidation resistance. In this paper, liquid EPDM is introduced to apply to hard apex, liner and tire black sidewall.
