In this article the relationship between compounding and inherent properties of HNBR grades related to low temperature performance and high temperature ageing in air and power steering fluids will be addressed. Ageing is analysed quantitatively as a function of time and temperature with an empirical method, Results are converted into maximum continuous operating temperatures. Data for HNBR grades and for HNBR in a power steering seal application are analysed.
