For extrusion and continuous vulcanisation of (automotive) profiles, high and constant output and shape consistency are needed, along with fast curing characteristics and a high level of physical properties of the extruded vulcanisate. It is now clearly established that the apparent difference in rheological properties of EPDM compounds is not only due to the molecular weight distribution, but also caused by long chain branching independently from the molecular weight distribution, has resulted in EPDM polymers with a combination of excellent processing characteristics and cured physical properties at low levels of termonomer.
