Cross-Linking and Physical Characteristics of a Water-Based Nonstick Hydrophobic Coating
This study is directed at determining the influence of cross-linking on the physical properties of a water-based nonstick hydrophobic coating, The extent of cross-linking was determined using FT-TR spectroscopy and correlated with important surface properties of the coatings : surface hydrophobicity (contact angle hysteresis of water), friction, and hardness, It was found that the contact angle hysteresis of water decreases with increasing cross-linking, achieving a constant value of 20-25 degrees at 40-50% of cross-linking, Although the coefficient of friction is independent of the extent of cross-linking, the scratch hardness of the coating increases with the extent of cross-linking.
