Single crystals of lithium and sodium niobium disulphides have been prepared by the crystallisation from the binary alkali metal sulphide melt. Structure elucidation of the hexagonal platelets yielded crystal structures in the spacegroup P6(3)/mmc with NbS2 layers, separated by intercalated alkali metals.
