Some Recent Results in Single-Molecule Spectroscopy
Fluorescence excitation spectra of small and dilute samples show the spectrally resolved lines of single solute molecules. The narrow lines can be used as probes of the low-temperature motion of the matrix around the molecule, or as probes of intramolecular transitions between electronic levels. In particular, electron spin resonance of a single molecule can be observed.
