A Base-Pair Between Transfer-RNA and 23S Ribosomal-RNA in the Peptidyl Transferase Center of the Ribosome
Interaction of the conserved CCA terminus of tRNA with rRNA in the peptidyl transferase P site has been studied by in vitro genetics. A Watson-Crick G-C pair between G2252 in a conserved hairpin loop of 235 rRNA and C74 at the acceptor end of tRNA is required for proper functional interaction of the CCA end of tRNA with the ribosomal P site. These findings establish a direct role for 23S rRNA in protein synthesis.
