Presented are main elaborations, developed by Special Mechanical Design Department #2 during 50 years of its activities. Reviewed is a history of rotary drilling technology development, initiators of which were R.A.loannisy;tn and M.T.Gusman. It is noted, that Russian engineers initiated many technical solutions, some of which are widely used in the world drilling practicies.
