CATALYTIC-OXIDATION OF ALKYLADAMANTANES BY HYDROGEN-PEROXIDE ON IRON-PYRIDINE COMPLEXES
A study has been made of the oxidation of alkyladamantanes by hydrogen peroxide on a new catalytic system consisting of iron-pyridine complexes in solutions of methanol, acetonitrile or pyridine. Atomic hydrogen generated by a palladium membrane was used as the reducing agent of iron in the catalytic complex. The reaction was carried out under conditions of successive reduction of the catalyst. 1,3-Dimethyladamantane and 1-ethyladamantane were oxidized both by the tertiary and secondary C atoms of the nucleus and by primary C atoms of the alkyl groups of alkyladamantanes. The main reaction products were alcohols; their content in the reaction products was considerably higher than the ketone content.
