In an investigation of the composition of petroleum hydrocarbons of the hopane series in certain crude oils from Western Ciscaucasia, the selective elimination of C-30 hopane has been found, with retention of the relative concentration of the remaining C-27-C-35 hopanes. The participation of micro-organisms in this process is suggested.
