Hydrogenation amination of aldehydes by alpha-naphthylamine
A study has been made of the hydrogenation amination of butanal, isobutanal and octanal by alpha-naphthylamine on palladium-containing anionites AV-17-8, AN-I, RAR-12p and Pd/C. The rate of the reaction on all the metal-containing polymers investigated increases with increasing temperature and degree of swelling of the polymer matrix of the catalyst. For the synthesis of N-alkylnaphthylamines it is preferable to use palladium-containing polymers, which, in contrast to Pd/C, make it possible to conduct the reaction selectively in relation to mono- or dialkylnaphthylamines.
