Study of the Microstructures of Phenyl and 4-Fluorophenyl Polyacrylates by H-1 and C-13 NMR-Spectroscopy
The microstructures of phenyl and 4-fluorophenyl polyacrylates were studied by 500 MHz H-1 and 125 MHz C-13 n.m.r. spectroscopy. The isotacticity parameters of both polyacrylates were calculated from the H-1 n.m.r. spectra, giving the values P-m = 0.44 for poly(phenyl acrylate) and P-m = 0.48 for poly(4-fluorophenyl acrylate). The C-13 n.m.r. spectra recorded in deuterated benzene showed well-resolved signals for carbonyl carbon, methine carbon and methylene carbon. The assignments were made on the basis of Bernoullian statistics, with good agreement between the experimental and calculated values for both polyacrylates.
