Pure Paracetamol for Direct Compression .2. Study of the Physicochemical and Mechanical-Properties of Sintered-Like Crystals of Paracetamol
Part I described the production of sintered-like Paracetamol crystals. In this second part, the physicochemical and technological behaviour of these crystals is investigated. The wettability and dissolution properties are then studied. The crystals exhibit a polyhedric habit which induces good flow properties. The porous crystal structure, resulting from the arrangement of the microcrystallites inside the crystalline particle, greatly improves compression ability, probably because of increased plasticity. Moreover, their porous crystal structure induces fast dissolution. Tablets were prepared by direct compression from a mixture of FGH Paracetamol with the usual excipients. These tablets disintegrate instantaneously and Paracetamol dissolution is complete within 10 min.
