Carry-over from shallow fluidized beds
Shallow fluidized beds are widely used for physical unit operations, i.e. powder drying, cooling, agglomeration, etc. The paper reports experimental results on entrainment from such fluidized beds. Batch and continuously operated beds of four commercially relevant powders are compared. Results are also compared with predictions by the empirical correlation of Geldart et al. Predicted and experimental entrainment rates differ widely, especially for the finer particle sizes. The empirical correlation overestimates the influence of the particle size on the elutriation rate constant.
