Follow good layup practice to prevent cycle corrosion
Cumulative effects of layup and startup cycles on steam chemistry may overwhelm even the best on-line chemistry procedures. On the other hand, plants following proper layup and startup procedures can expect significantly less corrosion while units are off line, and subsequently lower corrosion-product transport during startup. With best practices outlined here, boiler and feedwater chemistry enter normal operating limits very quickly during the startup process.
