Continuous Production of S-Lactoylglutathione by Immobilized Hansenula-Mrakii Cells
A methylglyoxal resistant yeast, Hansenula mrakii IFO 0895, was immobilized in the matrices of kappa-carrageenan gel and production of S-lactoylglutathione was performed. Optimal production was achieved under the following conditions : pH 6.0, 30 degrees C, ratio of glutnthione and methylglyoxal = 1.0. By packing the gel matrices into a column, S-lactoylglutathione was produced continuously for over 1 week with more than 80% of conversion of glutathione to S-lactoylglutathione at a space velocity 1 h(-1).
