Design of water-using systems involving regeneration
Water use and wastewater generation can be minimized through reuse and the appropriate use of regeneration. This paper introduces a new method for the identification of regeneration opportunities. Both regeneration reuse and regeneration recycling are addressed. The new method overcomes the difficulties encountered with previous methods and is also complemented by methods to predict the number of regeneration and final effluent treatment units. This allows the implications of decisions made on regeneration for final effluent treatment to be more clearly understood. The techniques described give enough information for costs to be allocated and allow different options to be explored and optimized.
