Ionic polymers V. Comparative study on textural characteristics of styrene-divinylbenzene and vinyltoluene-divinylbenzene copolymer supports
Styrene-divinylbenzene and vinyltoluene-divinylbenzene copolymers are prepared by free radical suspension polymerisation of the corresponding monomers in presence of diluents: n-heptane and n-butanol. In addition, for VT:DVB copolymer, linear polyvinyltoluene with different molecular weights is also used as diluent, Textural characteristics determined by apparent density, toluene and n-butanol uptakes, specific surface area and scanning electron microscopy of the two copolymer types prepared with the different diluents and various divinylbenzene contents are compared. The pore size distribution of the particles is obtained by image analysis of the respective copolymer bead micrographs.
