Electricity and potable water from a solar tower power plant
The cogeneration of electricity and potable water utilising solar energy is studied, assuming solar tower power plants with the open volumetric PHOEBUS receiver. The results for alternative plant configurations show that the water production cost is about the same or even lower than the cost of water produced by conventionally fired systems. Furthermore, the integration offers a reduction of CO2-emissions related to the water production of up to 50%, additionally to the environmental benefits of solar electricity production.
