Leith and Leithead (Automatica, 34, 1998a, 1041-1043) highlight inherent deficiencies in the approach proposed by Lawrence and Rugh (Automatica, 31, 1995, 381-390) land the related work by Kaminer, Pascoal, Khargonekar & Coleman (Automatica, 31, 1995, 1185-1191)) in in the context of gain-scheduling controller design. In this note, the nature of these deficiencies is further clarified. Also, in their response to Leith and Leithead (1998a), Lawrence and Rugh make a number of remarks regarding the results in Leith and Leithead (International Journal of Control, 65, 1996, 223-248). These remarks are addressed in turn in this note.
