alpha-Al2O3 was epitaxially grown on Na-beta"- and -beta-Al2O3 substrates over a cryolite-Al2O3 melt. The epitaxial relations between the substrate and product are : c-axis(alpha-Al2O3)//c-axis(beta"- or beta-Al2O3) and a-axis (alpha-Al2O3) boolean AND a-axis (beta"- or beta-Al2O3)=pi/6. The morphology of the alpha-Al2O3 film is affected by surface features on the substrates.
