Chemical Scaling of the Ionic-Conductivity in AgI-Ag2O-Mxo(Y) Glasses
With the thought that the physical properties of the materials depend on the nature of the chemical bond, a simple approach to treat the ion transport properties of glasses has been developed. A new scale of electronegativity has been defined in terms of the atomic nodal radii. The values of the ionic conductivities, activation energies and glass transition temperatures of AgI-Ag2O-M(x)O(y) glasses have been analysed by using this new scale. Interesting chemical trends that provide useful insights to the understanding of the ion transport properties in glasses have been found.
