A quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS) has been successfully and simply coupled to a simultaneous thermogravimetric analyzer-differential thermal analyzer (TG-DTA) through a heated capillary interface. The system has been used to study both calcium oxalate monohydrate and to interpret the unusual vaporization behavior of Buckminsterfullerene C60 on heating in an inert atmosphere.
