Cholesterol Phospholipid Interaction - A Monolayer Study
The interaction of cholesterol with phosphatidylcholine homologs was studied by the monolayer technique. The condensing effect of cholesterol on phospholipids is explained by a model in which the phase transition of cholesterol from the monohydrate to anhydrous form is also taken into account. Cholesterol seems to improve the cell membrane capacitance by acting as a dielectric material.
