Metal cations binding to surfactant head groups can provide materials with singular properties when compared with a non-binding surfactant monolayer and built-up films. In addition, it should widen the future application possibilities of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. This work reports the preparation of Eu3+-dihexadecyl phosphate LB films by suitable Y-type deposition on silanized quartz plates and discusses its luminescent properties. From the emission spectra and lifetime decay, features of the europium neighbourhood can be identified.
