Negative-Resistance Characteristics and Memory Phenomena in Electroformed Planar Metal-Films
An electroformed semicontinuous metal film was fabricated with a microslit of width of the order of 1 mu m and numerous mesoscopic islands formed in the slit. The granular film shows voltage controlled negative resistance (VCNR) accompanying a memory effect. These phenomena can be explained in terms of a model with carbonaceous conducting paths. We predict that similar phenomena can be observed on fabricated granular-film-like structures as a result of single-electron behavior and Coulomb interactions.
