Effect of Microstructure on the Wear Behavior of Fe-Co Thin-Films
Wear mechanisms of FeCo thin films were examined using a pin-on-disk device. The various profiles of the tracks at different rotation rates were related to the microstructure mainly studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation on cross-sections. The columnar structure of the films is shown to drastically lead to a decohesion at the film-substrate interface at higher rotation rates.
