A simple but novel method, which uses the reaction of iodine with silver foils, has been proposed to prepare the thin films of gamma-AgI, which are very useful in making fibres for TR light transmission. The structural, electrical and optical properties of the films were studied. A possible explanation for the film formation process is also discussed.
