We studied mono- and multilayers of a long-chain Di-n-ANEPPS derivative embedded in a lipid matrix with the aim to reproduce the excitation patterns of the cardiac muscle membrane in a model system. The binary systems of Di-8-ANEPPS with different lipids at the air-water interface and in Langmuir-Blodgett films were examined. We found that the electronic properties of Di-8-ANEPPS depend mainly on the polar headgroup of the lipid.
