Low-energy electron diffraction, Scanning tunneling microscopy and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy investigations of DMe-DCNQI on Cu(110)
We have studied the lateral orientation of [2,5-dimethyl-N, N'-dicyanoquinonediimine] (DMe-DCNQI) films on a Cu(110) surface with low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The electronic structures of these films were characterized by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). Organic molecular-beam deposited DMe-DCNQI exhibit high lateral orientational order in the monolayer regime. We found two different majority structures in two domain orientations. The molecules are strongly bound to the substrate. For thicker films deposited at 90 K a considerable change in the electronic property was observed via XPS indicating the build up of a charge transfer complex during heating to room temperature.
